Most of the people, in our society, have forgot about work-life balance. Even I was doing the same till I got my first work hazard - my back pain.
I was very hard working & aggressive for my work but never paid attention to my life & health. In result, I end up with some fame & money but poor health. Ultimately, I can't enjoy my life even after getting all resources. I always wondered why English people left office at 5 & never work for weekends. But I guess I realized it in recent months. My physio simply told me that root cause of all your health problems is your work style. He gave a few suggestions & advice, which work for me very well - A complete revolution. I recently started many activities & trying to maintain my work life balance. Now I always leave my office at around 6 in the evening no matter how much work is left. I have joined swimming, Pilates, yoga, gym etc etc..to keep my evenings busy. On weekends I am going for outings just to enjoy the time. Now I feel that I can still complete my job & activities assigned to me and I am also enjoying the life in a better way. I have reasons to come home, to earn money, to sleep on time, to plan things.
I feel its very difficult to maintain the consistency for your routines but once you start doing it, nature will arrange everything for you. You will wake up early in the morning as you need to do some exercise. Before leaving for office, you will automatically pack you bag for swimming in the evening & plan things in a better way. You will start avoiding all unnecessary & crappy stuff around you and will try to follow your daily targets. I started meeting people who are engaged in these activities for a long time & they are sharing new ideas. I can't summarize the benefits of this in words. Only thing which is important is to start doing it, prioritize activities to add fun in your life.
It works for me & I hope should work for others as well.
